Over the years, FMCTA has grown from a three-bus operation, serving the city, to the current 26-vehicle fleet, serving most of Marion County. FMCTA is always striving to meet the demands of the passenger, and to provide the highest service. Routes are monitored and adjusted as needed to serve more areas, or to better accommodate the times required by the public. All buses and vans are ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990) accessible, equipped with wheelchair lifts, designated seating for the elderly and disabled, destination signs on the side as well as the front, and lighter, brighter interiors to aide in visibility. In addition to regular, fixed-route buses, FMCTA also provides para transit services. Para transit is a term for a special service for those passengers who qualify. Vans are sent to the person's home and the person is given a ride directly to their destination. The person requesting this service must apply in writing and be approved to be eligible. They call in and make appointments in advance for their rides. The ADA is a Federal law that gives equal rights to all disabled people. It covers telecommunications, employment, public services, public accommodations, miscellaneous and transportation. It prohibits discriminations against the disabled in public transportation and requires that the disabled be provided with services to enable them to use public transportation. This includes buses, facilities and other services. FMCTA also provides NEMT service. |
